Xiang Xiang Seafood Permyjaya

AT and I had dinner at Xiang Xiang Seafood at Permyjaya, after he did something around the vicinity. It was my first time here, and we sat al fresco, dining under the stars. Lols.

The menu amused me to no end ....
Lols .... look at "Nan Lu Baby Oil" and "Mangosteen" ... so very funny it was!

Xiang Xiang Beancurd
Very nice and I enjoyed the combination of minced pork with deep-fried smooth, melt-in-the-mouth tofu ... The portion was also very big; and we couldn't finish this plate of tofu.

Lo Han Cai
This dish was cooked with red fermented beancurd .... I think this vegetable dish was not well-cooked at all .... The beancurd sticks looked dry and unappetising, and the vegetables had not absorbed the flavours of the fermented beancurd yet ....

Small intestines with ginger, onions and soy
My first time eating this .... the small intestines were already braised in soy and spices, before being stir-fried here. It was hard and chewy to me ...... and well, I did not like it at all ...

Hmn .... some hits and misses here .... perhaps we hadn't really ordered the right dishes ...

He Would Be Back

What? AT exclaimed when I told him that I'd arranged for a fowarding agency to send my stuff back to Kuching.

I had 22 boxes, and would be charged RM20.00 per box. For a door-to-door service, I thought that paying RM440.00 was rather reasonable.

AT insisted that he could help me save cost, and took the liberty to cancel my arrangement on my behalf.

And yes, he did help me save as much as RM115.00.

My receipt

And we were NOT using a forwarding agency. We were using a courier service at that! I was really amazed ... because the price that AT had negotiated was really, really unbelievable.

Well, I am indebted to AT for his immense help during this period of time ... if not for him, I would not be able to get my things done so quickly and smoothly. AT was the one who gave me boxes, very durable ones too. He even helped me pack. He helped me load those heavy boxes into his SUV. And then unloaded them afterwards. Some were 22kg in weight. He even got me a bargain courier rate. How could I ever repay his kindness ....

Anyway, my stuff settled, I felt the burden lift off my shoulders .... and we had lunch at the Vintage Tea House at Piasau. AT liked the food here ....

Vintage Tea House's signature dishes ...

Read here and here for the reviews.

This is one of my favourite shops to eat in Miri .... and AT questioned why I had never brought him there before ... Well, in fact, I had brought him once but at the time the shop was closed.

Anyway, rest assured that he would be back. :))

Awkward Times

I always got off work at an awkward time .... and there was nothing much to eat at those times. So I dropped by Merdeka Mall and bought a packet of noodles from the food court. I did that two days in a row ...

Vegetarian Wheat Vermicelli Stirfry, with a thermos filled with chilled honey ...
I quite liked the noodles, which I found to be quite tasty and textural .... The sweet honey was made for me by my kiddie. I was so blessed.

Stir-fried rice vermicelli with coffee
Hmn .... this version of the noodles wasn't as yum ....

I was glad that I would not have to buy my dinner there any longer the next day. :))

Soon Fook @ Krokop 5

I used to love to eat here .... until the crowd got bigger and we had to wait a long time for our food. At that point, we stopped coming. My favourite dish here was the Stir-fry beancurd skin with assorted mushrooms. It was a vegetarian dish which I loved very much to eat with rice ....

The other day, AT and I were together here for the first time, and we did enjoy all the food that we ordered ...

Stir-fry beancurd skin with assorted mushrooms
Love the beancurd skin which was smooth and chewy, compact but not dense, and has absorbed much of the flavours from the dark coloured gravy .... delicious

Stir-fry cangkuk manis with egg
Sweet amd eggy ... yum ...

I loved the thick pork chop, deep-fried till crunchy on the outside, and yet tender on the inside. The sauce was well balanced, sweet and tangy; and I liked the crunchy textures of the vegetables garnishing the dish

Pig stomach pepper soup
I liked it, but AT thought it was rather mild

Well, the portions here were generous; the dishes we ordered could easily feed three people. We paid RM35.00, including drinks. Reasonable, huh?

A Stroll At Taman Awam

It was drizzling but we made our way to Taman Awam anyway. I hadn't really ventured here before even though I had been in Miri for the longest time ....

And so I was pleasantly surprise by the well-kept gardens and landscape ..... if only it had not been drizzling, I guessed I would walk longer ....

That evening, we had our dinner here, and all the food was good! I would recommend all the dishes I ate here ....

Stir-fry free-range chicken with ginger and soy

Stir-fry midin with red wine

Stir-fry squids with sambal

Sea cucumber thick soup

Assam curry fish

Deep-fried pork

Assorted mushrooms stir-fry

To cut the long story short, I enjoyed my walk, and of course my meal here. :))

Chen Kee Again

We were looking for a place to have lunch ..... and at first we went to Black Forest, where I liked the chicken rice. The shop was close however, and so we made a detour to Chen Kee instead.

Chicken rice for 2 .... soup and mustard stir-fry ....

Again .... the chicken rice here did not seem to impress me that much ..... Read here.

Porridge Dinner

Indeed I wasn't feeling very well for that period of time ..... and I requested porridge for dinner. We went to New Thompson twice that week for our porridge meal. These were some dishes we had over those 2 meals ....

Black pomfret was AT's favourite ....

 Egg omelette with preserved radish

 Cabbage stirfry

Steamed minced pork with salted fish

Old cucumber and pork ribs soup

Ferns with belacan stirfry ...

The food was nice here, and the service was quite fast too. :)) You may want to read here and here.

Not So Fun

Hmn .... I normally liked steamboat dinners .... but that day, I found it tiring and troublesome to cook the food myself ..... perhaps I was feeling tired.

We were at 883 Steamboat and Grill .... at Permyjaya. So far it was, and we would never go there normally. For RM25.00, we could eat all that we wanted. But of course, we had to cook them first. The ingredients were a lot! And there were lotsa types of dips too ....

Lotsa ingredients cooking on the grill and hotpot ....

I couldn't tell what's what as there were no labels .... and I left it to the others to take the ingredients from the counters .... I guessed I must had been very tired. I would have to go back there someday to slowly savour cooking and eating all the food I could!

Spoiled Rotten

Hmn .... AT was spoiling me rotten ....

Black chicken and Korean ginseng soup ....

Black bean and pork ribs soup ....

 Assorted mushrooms stirfry ....

Milkshake and a handful of supplements ...

Hmn .... any girl would be touched. Blush.

Desserts @ Marriott

I received the most ecstatic of news that day. I was leaving. For good. In 2 weeks. Goodness. I had to start packing my stuff. How would I bring them all home to Kuching? How would I bring my car?

Lots of thoughts flew by me ..... but at the moment, I was still tottering between happiness and disbelief. I was happy to leave. And yet, I did not believe that I actually got to leave ......

Well, AT had mixed feelings about me leaving .... for one, we were makan and lepak buddies ....  and guess he had to look for another person to hang out with in the future. But that night, AT brought me out to celebrate.

We headed to Marriott Hotel .....

Affogato
This is a shot of espresso with ice-cream. Lols .... AT did not like it after the ice-cream melted ... duh of course it would melt .....

Our selection of desserts at half price .... it was really worth it ....

Sugar doughnut ....

Blueberry muffin

Rich cheesecake ....

Love all the sweets ......

And love the quiet atmosphere where we could talk .... I was glad that AT could share my happiness. :))

Lee's Western Food

AT picked me up from the airport ... and brought me to have dinner at Lee's Western Food. Well ... it's near the area where Country Chicken Rice is. I never knew that there was an economical Western food stall here.

Lamb chop. RM12.00

Yums ...

The meat was alright, tender and tasty and I liked the mushroom sauce drenching the meat .... the tangy coleslaw was yum too. If only they could work on the crockery ... Hmn .... the plate had seen better days .... and if they had bothered to use a nicer one, then the whole meal would be even more YUM.

Fuel Shack

My family sent me off at TBS. It's the abbreviation for Terminal Bersepadu Selatan and that's the new bus terminal for buses heading to the south .... I bought my bus ticket to LCCT, costing only RM8.00 .... and had an hour to spare. So we headed to the food outlets for lunch .....

When I saw Fuel Shack, I immediately knew what I wanted. I had wanted to try their burgers for the past few days as I thought they looked pretty good ....

Oooh .... loving the little scooter on display ....

I ordered an Original Shack .....

Original Shack Meal
The fries and drink was pretty standard. So how was the burger? Hmn .... the beef patty was thick! Well, it had to be as it was made of up 150g worth of beef .... not bad .... except that I found the beef patty really, really salty. If they would go easy on the salt .... I think it'll be yummier.

We also ordered ....

Cheesy fries ...
I preferred the cheese to be melted .....

Fried chicken
I felt that the fried chicken was not only a huge, huge portion ... but it was also tasty .... yums .....

After that .... I went into the departure lounge ......

Looking just like an airport

My departure gate ....

And then it's off to the airport .......

Namoo On The Park

It was my first time to Publika ... and I loved these artistic structures scattered around the area .... `

We just wanted to have a drink .... and after considering a few outlets, we settled on Namoo On The Park ... Namoo? Hmn ... doesn't that mean "tree" in Korean?

Love the waiting area ...

We sat facing the little play area outside the bistro ... and it was rather dim, with just a lantern on the table .... we ordered ....

 Cafe Latte

 Green Tea Latte

I think the coffee was much nicer than the tea. The tea tasted way too mild. I honestly could taste only the milk ....

 Mat Tang
This was honey glazed sweet potatoes, pumpkin and nuts with Yuza marmalade; It was quite enjoyable, especially when eaten hot!

I did like the ambience here .... it would be cool to just chill out and relax after a long day ........ we did not say for long, however, and it was a long drive back ......

Revisiting Miri

I went back to Miri for the first time in 7 years and 10 months.  Miri Waterfront I left Miri in 2014, and years have passed in a blink of a...
